MTW BLOG: Traumatic torso injuries in Norway

Stefan Candefjord and Ruben Buendia were in Sandnes in March to perform measurements on traumatic torso injuries (chest and abdomen) using a very realistic porcine model developed by Nils Petter Oveland and colleagues. The project is a collaboration between Chalmers/MedTech West, University of Stavanger/Stavanger University Hospital, Norwegian University of Life Sciences and Medfield Diagnostics AB. The goal of the project is to evaluate the accuracy of microwave technology and electrical bioimpedance technology to detect and monitor traumatic injuries in the torso, which are time-sensitive and common injuries for which there is a large need for new diagnostic tools for the prehospital environment. Data analysis is ongoing and the aim is to publish the results in 2017.
