Hana Dobsicek Trefna received grant from Barncancerfonden

Hana Dobsicek Trefna, Assistant professor in the Biomedical Electromagnetics research group at Chalmers University of Technology, recently received 1 MSEK from Barncancerfonden for a one year project on “Local hyperthermia to open the blood-brain barrier and enhance chemotherapy of brain tumors”. The aim of this project application is to develop an experimental heating device to enable a study for temporarily opening the blood-brain barrier by increased tissue temperature. The device will be used in a study on juvenile mice to determine the threshold temperatures for transient and reversible opening of the blood-brain barrier.

Hana´s work aims at clinical introduction of hyperthermia in Sweden, developing an UWB hyperthermia system for treatment of Head and Neck tumors and exploring the possibility of hyperthermia treatment of brain tumors in children.
