Brain Function Monitoring with EEG at the neonatal intensive care unit that resulted in the establishment of the EEG-based neonatal monitoring throughout Västra Götalandsregionen (VGR), with analytical support and data storage via the SPG, in cooperation with local companies (SACS Medical AB). The project provides unique opportunities for population-based studies.
• A simple EEG technology, known as aEEG established in neonatal care internationally, is now in the VGR-common signaling system used in routine activities (SACS®). This is accompanied by an analysis support system aimed at increasing diagnostic quality in all the region's neonatal units.
• EEG recordings made in various categories of children at the neonatal-dept., Queen Silvia Child and Youth Hospital (DSBUS). For those registrations, the established and new analytical techniques to reach new information were applied. With a clinical context, a new type of EEG-amplifier that allows the registration of frequencies down to 0 Hz, which provides information in newborn children studied with EEG that was unavailable previously.
• In experimental studies in chronically instrumented lamb fetuses it is now possible, with the above-mentioned new type of amplifier, to perform EEG studies during normal development of the nervous system. Different experimental interventions enable replication and study of clinically relevant events such as perinatal CNS infection.
