97 million SEK to medtech research and development in Sweden

The strategic innovation program Medtech4Health has been granted 97 million SEK to be distributed over 3.5 years. The program is being financed within the framework of VINNOVA’s, Energimyndigheten’s and Forma’s mutual engagement in strategic innovation areas. The program will target joint solutions for important national challenges within the field of medical technology. VINNOVA will be evaluating the program every third year with the ambition to keep it running for 10 years. They would also like to see collaboration between Medtech4Health and the strategic innovation program SweLife in order to reach the common goals of strengthening the medical field and making healthcare more effective.

– This is very good news for the Swedish medtech industry, says Henrik Mindedal, director of MedTech West that is representing western Sweden in the program. A significant fraction of the money will be distributed through various calls for proposals connected to sub-programs, thus adding important and long-awaited resources to development projects and companies. This will result in a larger number of Swedish medtech products and solutions that can create value in healthcare and contribute to a stronger export market.
