Welcome to a MedTech West lunch seminar: Cerebral connectivity or What the brain does
How various neurophysiologic techniques can better inform us of the activities underlying different aspects of our modes of function
Welcome to a MedTech West lunch seminar with Magnus Thordstein, Ass. professor and a Senior lecturer in Clinical Neurophysiology at Sahlgrenska University Hospital.
The fundamental task for the brain is to handle information. There has been a long standing debate as to whether the basal modus operandus is through a principle of segregation or integration. As in most such debates, the most reasonable response is that both of these principles are part of that basis. In the case of the brain, this concerns function at extreme levels of complexity in short and long time perspectives. The functions of the brain have been studied using a large amount of techniques. During recent years, a lot of attention has been focused on techniques employing functional measures where the communication within the brain can be investigated in a quantitative manner.
At this lunch seminar, Magnus Thordstein will present some examples of recent findings on cerebral connectivity incl. those indicating that this knowledge can be used therapeutically and point to some of these aspects where our research groups are aiming to take part.
